About & Experience

Hello!  My name is Avery Leigh Draut and I am an enthusiastic portrait, headshot, and event photographer with roots in the fine town of Athens, GA.  I’m also a student at the University of Georgia.  As a photographer, I place a heavy emphasis on a very natural aesthetic and high quality for my photographs, and I am very excited to help my clients find comfort and quality in our sessions together!  I would be absolutely delighted to talk with you about any ideas you might have for a portrait, headshot, or event photo session, as well as mold myself to fit your needs.  I have experience taking portraits (of people and pets, alike!) and headshots for actors, dancers, and musicians.  I have been hired for photo shoots with bands, I have photographed events for local businesses, and I am looking forward to shooting a wedding in July.

Training & Experience

I was originally drawn to the world of black and white film, and my first formal photographic training came from the Intermediate Darkroom Class at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center (Atlanta, GA).  This is where I learned how to create a beautiful photograph from the tools of the darkroom, and to develop my own negatives and prints.

At the University of Georgia, I continued my photography work with the UGA Center for Continuing Education‘s Fundamentals of Photography class.  This was an in-depth course that focused on the ins and outs of the Digital SLR Camera.  As a student at the University, I worked for The Red & Black newspaper for a year, photographing bands for the Arts section and also University events.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to check out Avery’s Lightworks!
